Martial Arts Curriculum

Shotokan Karate Do:

(pre-sportification)

. A Japanese striking and grappling martial art founded by Gichin Funakoshi; a poverty stricken Japanese poet, medical student, philosopher, moralist and humanitarian.

. There are 26 kata (over the greatest period of time) with some long standing or traditional schools only recognizing that approximately 15 kata can be effectively mastered over a lifetime of daily practice. I currently teach only 17 kata.

Western Boxing: (sport - non Olympic)

. The curriculum covers cardiovascular strength, as well as developing speed, power and more importantly accuracy in mechanical execution and timing of your hand strikes in conjunction with the proper application of footwork.

. We will also discuss concepts like hicks law (or the limiting of choices so as to expedite the selection of one) and kinetic linking (or how combatants or athletes best apply power in their movements).

Goshin jutsu:

. A Japanese self-defense system that imparts tanbo-jutsu, tanto-jutsu and hojo-jutsu training. These weapons of ko-budo are similar to that of a walking cane, a stick, a knife, and a bundle of rope or cords.

. Training includes the practice of concepts such as situational awareness, fundamental attribution error, *hicks law, verbal de-escalation tactics, apprehension techniques, and preemptive offensives designed to address particular criminal events such as rape and robbery.
